Memories

Category

One day when I must have been no more than four years old, I was sitting in the backseat of my dad’s car. Thumb in my mouth, I was listening to the Bonnie Tyler cd my dad loved to play when he was driving. I was trying to see over his left shoulder. “Daddy,” I started, “how does our car know where we’re going?”

“What do you mean?” he replied. I was looking at the blinking green arrow that pointed to the left.

“That blinking light. How does it know we’re going left or right?”

“Oh,” he chuckled. “I tell it that.”

I pondered his response.

I pondered and wondered.

“But how?”

“I just tell it that.”

I would repeat this question many times after that day. I would be sitting in the back seat, my attention drawn to the blinking green arrow every time I heard that “tick tock, tick tock” sound.

And every time, he gave me the same vague answer. Just leaving me to ponder and wonder.

Sometimes a memory comes to mind and I make a little note so I don’t forget. I wrote this one a long time ago and just found it sitting in my phone. Thought I’d create a ‘memories’ category here, so some of these notes can collect virtual dust here too 😉  Hope you enjoy this first one!
